YOUR FINE HAIR ISN'T THE PROBLEM. YOU'VE JUST NEVER HAD THE RIGHT ROUTINE.

Washing

Clients with fine hair who visit my salon often have a lot of product and dirt buildup in their hair. To ensure that all products work effectively, we first remove this buildup with a clarifying and/or detox shampoo. You should repeat this every few weeks to give your hair a reset.

  • Curly Secret Deep Cleansing Shampoo

  • Curl Bites Deep Cleansing Shampoo

For your regular hair washes, I recommend a sulfate-free shampoo that’s still powerful enough to thoroughly clean your scalp.

Care

What I mean by “conditioning” is “nourishing,” and nourishing products make your hair soft. Fine hair is already very soft by nature, so we don’t want to “condition” it too much, otherwise the curls will lose their shape very quickly. For fine hair, I always recommend choosing one (or at most two) conditioning products. Think conditioner, hair mask, curl cream, or leave-in. Just pick one of them.

If you protect your fine hair properly, you can enjoy your beautiful curls for days on end without having to touch them up too often. You can do this by using a satin or silk pillowcase (a must!) and/or wearing a bonnet. For people with fine hair, I recommend keeping your hair loose and wearing a hair buff.

Styling

The biggest challenge with fine hair is that it loses its shape much more quickly and/or gets frizzy easily. That’s why I recommend using products with “hold” (such as curl gel, foam, mousse, hairsprays, etc.). They help prevent frizz and make your curls last longer.

Drying

Blow-drying with a diffuser is highly recommended, especially for fine hair. The diffuser helps curls stay bouncy and reduces frizz.

Refresh

I wouldn't wash my hair with water every day. But you could, for example, do a spot refresh where you work on each curl individually with foam or hair mousse (without water). If you exercise a lot, you can also use dry shampoo so you don't have to wash your hair just yet.
