AIRDRYING YOUR FRIZZY CURLY HAIR MIGHT WORK.. BUT ONLY IF YOU DO THESE THINGS.

If you ask me about air-drying and whether I'm a fan, HELL TO THE NO. Air-drying takes so much time, and it's not always better for your hair. And the worst part? Having your wet hair all over you… it's just BLEEGHHHH…

BUT…. I know a lot of people LOVE air-drying, and I don't blame them. Diffusing can be a lot of hassle too, although I will always choose diffusing over air-drying over and over again (unless in the summer, but we'll talk more about that in this article).

OK but how do you get the best results while air-drying, especially if you have fine wavy or curly hair? We know that diffusing can enhance the definition and the volume of our waves and curls. Won't air-drying cause a lot of frizz?

When you want to airdry your hair, you need to know that you're gonna do it even before you put any product on your hair. This is because you want to use lightweight products so that your hair won't take AGES to dry. So, avoid heavy creams and leave-ins, thick hair gels, etc. and swap them for lightweight stylers such as leave-in spray (yes, it does exist), foam, mousse and hairspray.

Here are step by step instructions on how to get the best results while air-drying your hair:

✅ After washing your hair, apply a lightweight leave-in (like a leave-in spray). This is a lot lighter than regular leave-ins, yet it still gives you the slip that you need to define your curls. One of my faves is the Fable and Mane Detangling Leave- In Conditioner.

✅ After that, choose your stylers. I'd choose a styler that has enough hold without having to pair it with another styler, such as the Define Styling Foam from Curly Secret.

You can either divide your hair into sections and define your curls to get maximum definition. If you are in a time crunch, you can style upside down and make sure that all hair is covered by the foam. You can also use a styling brush to make sure all product is distributed. Then glaze and scrunch in a bit of oil.

✅ I style mostly on wet hair, not dripping wet! After this, you can use a cotton towel to microplop; this gets rid of excess water in your hair too. Don't do this right away after using products though, wait a few minutes until all products are a bit absorbed into your hair. My favorite towel that is very smooth and doesn't cause unnecessary frizz is the The Perfect Haircare Hair Towel

✅ What I'd do in the summer is diffuse my roots until it's 70% dry and the lengths a bit. After that, I'll air-dry the rest. When it's a heatwave outside, that's when I prefer to air-dry instead of diffusing.

To minimize frizz, use a silk scarf as a coat around your shoulders. This minimizes the friction that can make your hair frizzy.

✅ And if your hair needs even more hold, try using a hairspray after plopping. I like this one from Bounce Curl.

✅ TWO HOURS LATERR (Or more)… Your hair might be dry by now and you'll want to scrunch out the crunch (if there is any) with a silk scarf and a lightweight oil. I LOVE the Curly Secret Scrunching Oil, it's my holy grail!
